What is a motion for clarification?

A motion for clarification is a process by which you can request the appellate court to clarify the meaning of its decision or the basis for its decision.  This step can be necessary if the opinion is confusing, or if the basis for the court’s decision, if explained, would conflict with another district court’s decision.
